What awaits you
Understand the law, discover human rights, and experience community work first-hand.
Our Law & Human Rights programme offers you diverse insights into the Ghanaian legal and social system. Depending on your placement and availability, you could work with the Social Welfare Department, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Legal Aid, a law firm, or an NGO. Prior legal knowledge is not required. For participants with a background or degree in law, tasks and insights can be tailored accordingly. SOCIAL WELFARE: At the Social Welfare Department, you can experience how social conflicts are managed, awareness campaigns are organised, and cases are supported. HUMAN RIGHTS & DOVVSU: Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will gain insights into cases and case files. Naturally, volunteers do not take on police or sovereign duties. LAW FIRM & LEGAL AID: Depending on your placement, you can also shadow lawyers and legal professionals, assist with research, study case files, and – whenever possible – observe court hearings.
Your typical day
Depending on your placement, this programme mixes both office and field work. Most projects run from around 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, but these times can vary depending on appointments, court hearings, or field trips. Best of all, your weekends are completely free.
